Beck has never been defined by a set genre, having produced songs and albums that are all entirely different, from Alt rock, to Indie, Hip hop, and Anti-folk. So, to mix Beck and the Boston Pops Orchestra, will undoubtably give you something spectacular, even though we have no idea what it is!

It certainly has been a long road since 1992, Beck produced the hip-hop single, "Loser," and hated it. A year later and after much convincing, he released a very limited vinyl of the song, only printing 500 copies. By 1994, it had been picked up by local college radio, and slowly made its way to receiving airplay on various rock radio stations. This led to his signing with DGC Records and releasing the single, it immediately hit number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 that April, and charted in Australia, Austria, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden.

His artistic progression changes with each new album, and since the release of his first album, "Mellow Gold," in 94. He has produced the multi-platinum cultural touchstone "Odelay" in 96, the trippy "Mutations" in 98, the funky "Midnite Vultures," in 99. A somber "Sea Change" in 02, another platinum hit with "Guero" in 05, the sprawling "The Information" in 06, and the critically acclaimed "Modern Guilt" in 08. Beck won a Grammy for "Morning Phase" in 14, and followed it with "Colors," in 17, and finally, his latest album, "Hyperspace," from 2019.

Visionary conductor, curator and producer, Edwin Outwater has worked with the world's best artists and top orchestras to create some of the finest cross-over collaborations of our time. Ranging from Metallica to Wynton Marsalis, Renée Fleming and Yo-Yo Ma. He is, in the words of his mentor Michael Tilson Thomas, “one of the most innovative conductors on the scene today.” Edwin Outwater is Music Director of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Music Director Laureate of Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony
