In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the film, Jurassic Park in Concert was conceptualized and created. With the blockbuster movie shown on screen, a full orchestra is performing the film’s legendary score created by John Williams live on stage.
The Principal Pops Conductor of both the Victoria Symphony and the Symphoria in Syracuse, New York, Sean O’ Loughlin, described Jurassic Park in Concert as “It’s an amazing mix of live symphony and an iconic film we all know and love.”
In the story of Jurassic Park, dinosaurs that have been scientifically restored are the main feature of a theme park that has been opened on a secluded island. When Drs. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) go to the park, the Jurassic residents manage to escape and take over the planet once more, leaving them battling for their lives.
The film's soundtrack was recorded one month after John Williams started work on it at the end of February. The orchestrations for the score were done by John Neufeld and Alexander Courage. Williams felt that, similar to his work on Close Encounters of the Third Kind, another Spielberg film, he had to write "pieces that would convey a sense of 'awe' and fascination" because the film was about the "overwhelming happiness and excitement" of seeing live dinosaurs. Scary themes were needed for more suspenseful scenes, like the Tyrannosaurus attack. The first soundtrack album was released on May 25, 1993. On April 9, 2013, a new soundtrack featuring four bonus tracks chosen by Williams was made available for digital download in honor of the film's 20th anniversary.
Jurassic Park won all three of the Academy Awards for which it was nominated in March 1994: Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects (Spielberg, editor Michael Kahn, and composer John Williams won Academy Awards for Schindler's List at the same ceremony). The movie won awards outside of the United States as well, such as the 1994 BAFTA for Best Special Effects and the Award for the Public's Favorite Film. It also won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 1994. It also won the 1993 Saturn Awards for Best Science Fiction Film, Best Direction, Best Writing for Crichton and Koepp, and Best Special Effects. It also won the 1993 People's Choice Awards for Favorite All-Around Motion Picture. John Williams was awarded the BMI Film Music Award in 1994.
