American orchestra The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) was founded by Henry Lee Higginson in 1881. It is the second oldest of the five major American symphony orchestras (sometimes referred to as the "Big Five"). The BSO holds most of its concerts at Boston's Symphony Hall and occasionally plays at Tanglewood.

Samy Rachid
Music Director Andris Nelsons appointed young French conductor Samy Rachid as an assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra beginning with the 2023–2024 season. Formerly the cellist of the Arod Quartet, he quit that outfit in 2021 focus on directing, gaining 2nd Prize of the Tokyo International Music Competition for directing. The same year he worked with France’s Orchestre Elektra and was subsequently asked by the ensemble to become its music director for the 2022-23 season. He participated in the Gstaad Conducting Academy, working closely with Jaap von Zweden and became the first conductor to work closely with the likes of Gianandrea Noseda and Klaus Mäkelä, as well as the famous Verbier Festival 2022 as a Conducting Fellow.He’s also the first Franch conductor to win the Academy’s Neeme Jarvi Prize.
He is the Opéra National du Rhin's assistant conductor at the moment. He will make his Boston Symphony Orchestra debut as assistant conductor during the 2024 Tanglewood season. In the 2024–2025 season, he will conduct subscription concerts at Symphony Hall.
Midori
Midori, who was born in Osaka in 1971, studied the violin with her mother Setsu Goto from a young age. The basis for Midori's later career was set in 1982 when conductor Zubin Mehta invited the then-11-year-old to play with the New York Philharmonic in the orchestra's yearly New Year's Eve concert. Here at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Midori holds the Dorothy Richard Starling chair in violin studies. Shenandoah University, Yale University, Smith College, and Longy School of Music have all awarded her honorary doctorates. She uses four bows: two made by Dominique Peccatte, one by François Peccatte, and one by Paul Siefried. She plays the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesù "ex-Huberman" violin.
As a visionary educator, artist, and activist, Midori investigates and creates links between music and the human condition. The violinist has played with many of the most prominent orchestras in the world and has collaborated with well-known artists such as Leonard Bernstein and Yo-Yo Ma in the forty years since her debut with the New York Philharmonic at the age of eleven. Beginning in the summer of 2024, Midori has been the artistic director of the Ravinia Steans Music Institute's Program for Piano & Strings.
